PREMISE
In certain universes, certain people have a power called a 'Stand'. Manifesting in many different ways, a Stand consists of a physical form personifying the user's spirit and a bizarre supernatural power. Some people are born with their Stand, but others have acquired it by being pierced with a special arrow made from a meteorite that crashed on earth thousands of years ago.
An organization known as the Speedwagon Foundation (SPW) has been investigating the origins of that meteorite, and Stands along with it. In the process, they discovered a race of Stand-using aliens who are abducting people from across all universes—and using them to populate a base on the dark side of the moon, for mysterious and unknown purposes.
Simply coming into contact with the environment on the moon awakens a Stand in anyone with potential...and kills anyone without it. Short on Stand users able to investigate, the SPW has reached out for help—perhaps a little further than they intended.
No matter where or when you’re from, SPW wants you—even if it turns out your power is a little underwhelming or if you’re not exactly the altruistic type. SPW hopes you’ll investigate Stands and the aliens... but they certainly have no way of checking in on you if you don’t. Hero or otherwise, it's a great opportunity: to gain power, make friends, escape certain death, maybe just to try and assimilate into daily moon life—or whatever it is they’re up to up there. It turns out the aliens aren’t the most organized, and don’t seem to notice if there’s a few more people than they’ve been taking in.
Unfortunately, the aliens are also a bit... underinformed ...on what people like you need to survive, so it seems you'll have to investigate your Stand, or your neighbors, to make money and get what you need to live—whether you like it or not.
WITHSTAND is a panfandom, OC-friendly RP based on concepts from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Characters can arrive either voluntarily or involuntarily, and they acquire Stand powers on their arrival—these powers will replace whatever (supernatural) skills they have in canon, and they can be as similar or as different from their canon skills as you like.
The focus of the game is primarily character-driven interaction, with IC motivation to investigate their new powers; for characters to survive they must find creative ways to use their Stands, either to help the other residents or hurt them. Players are encouraged to run their own events, using their powers – as long as their Stand allows for a dungeon or dream post or hot dog eating contest, there are few limits placed on what you can do. NPC investigators, abductees and maybe even your alien hosts may also make things extra interesting now and then, via mod-run plot events.
Familiarity with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is absolutely not required. However, the game should generally match the canon in tone: music references, really weird powers, ridiculous dramatics, potential body horror, and a flexible approach that focuses on fun and cool stuff happening.
